7 Proven Ways to Boost Your Facebook Ad Results

When it comes to getting the attention of your target audience outside your website there’s no beating advertising.

Sure, word of mouth (warm traffic) is going to convert far better, but that’s only natural, as the recommendation comes from someone whose opinion you trust, like a family member or a friend.

However, if you decide to wait until the word of mouth about your website, product or service reaches all of your target audience, you’ll probably have grown old, decided to retire, and better yet, never made any real money or gained true influence over your audience. And that is where advertising comes in.

Method #1 – Finding Your Target Audience

Now, this might sound like that Marketing 101 class for those of you who went to such things, but trust me when I say that if you target your audience poorly, your advertising ROI will fall like a piano out of the sky.

Facebook for one has given its advertising platform powerful tools to optimize their advertising efforts that you can pin- point your target audience effortlessly from the sea of millions of users who you don’t want to show your advertisement to.

This allows you to boost the results gained from spending those hard earned dollars on advertising. Your first step to hitting your target market is venturing into the targeting options of your new advertising campaign.
Targeting Facebook

As you can see, Facebook allows you to narrow down their billion person audience using some powerful elements of their targeting options. What makes their platform such a pleasure to work with is their ability to ‘layer’ each targeting option so you can continue to drill further down into your target market.

Method #2 – Hunting Down Your Competition

Facebook Ad Insights

Healthy competition is always welcome, and it just so happens that it is a very powerful way to reaching excellent advertising results.

By using Facebook’s advertising feature that allows you to target people who like certain goods or brands, such as Rebook, Nike or Adidas you’re able to directly capture the audience in your competitor’s fan base.

I mean lets think about it, how cool would it be if you could put a billboard in front of every customer that ever walked into your competitor’s shoe shop across the road?

See the idea behind this one? You can actually target those people who like your competition, so you know they undoubtedly are people who are interested in the niche you work in.

Method #3 – Using Good Advertising Structure

Structuring your advertising strategy is as vital as targeting your ideal audience, since a proper structure allows you to measure results more efficiently, test different ad types, ad copy on different client types, and last but not least, it allows you to identify the ad types that bring in the best results.

And that’s how we like our advertising, optimized and with a fat ROI.

Facebook themselves have an excellent guide as to how you should structure your advertising efforts, which can be found here.

With such a large combination of Campaigns, Ad Sets and Ads within your advertising manager it can be a nightmare to manage what’s going in and out every time you change or launch a new Facebook Ad.

Method #4 – Using Copywriting That Converts

Never underestimate the power of well-written copy, whether it’s for a landing page or an advert, copywriting is a part in which you shouldn’t skimp on the cost.

I’m not saying you should hire a million dollar copywriter to come up with slogans like the mega corporations do from a startup phase, but at least have someone with experience in the field read through your creations.

Their minds work wonders even if it’s just one sentence, and they can give you loads of great conversion tips. When you’re writing out your advertising copy, it’s important to realize there’s a lot of different ways to angle your advertisement and without taking things into consideration like objections, hooks, fears and wants (just to name a few) you could be seeing extremely big differences from what you would have seen if you used a copywriter from the beginning.

Funnel Scripts is an easy-to-use tool that lets you create content from email subject lines, ad copies, email content, etc.

Method #5 – Using Video Advertising

Video advertising might not be the first thing you think about when it comes to Facebook advertising, but don’t let the overlook by others come back to haunt you later.

Sooner or later there will be a video advertisement out from every single business on this planet and then you think, “Oh man, why didn’t I just listen to Stephen?”

Get in there with an amazing video and you’ll be growing past your competition in no time. The large brands are already doing this, but the SMEs haven’t sunk their teeth in it yet. It is extremely efficient, as YouTube advertising has proven over the years, and when it comes to Facebook, it’s still an untapped goldmine if executed correctly.

A good testimonial shown at the right time in your sales funnel can be what pushes your prospect over the line to make a purchase from you, simply because you gave them some more trust and support during their buying cycle when they needed it most.

Here’s an example, I make it all the way to a $37 product’s order form but I’m still not 100% confident on making the purchase so I return back to Facebook and close the screen.

Then a video testimonial pops up which is someone directly in my position who is raving about how successful the product has been for them.As they tell their story of success, this could be what moves me from a “worried and uncertain shopper” to a “look let’s give it a go it’s only $37 dollars” kind of shopper.

Method #6 – Facebook Ad Creative

Not only should you have sweet graphics on your Facebook page and website, one of your advertisements should also include an image, and it needs to grab everyone’s attention.

You only get that short moment to catch your audience’s eye as all of them scroll down on their Facebook news feeds, and you need to capitalize in that time period.

With free tools like Canva out there, you don’t even need to be a Photoshop wizard to be able to create some catchy graphics for your you to use.

Now before the graphic designers all jump on my back, I want to make one thing clear.

Test, test, test.

While a beautifully designed graphic is nice, it’s not always what’s going to make you the most money. Sometimes a design which a 5-year-old girl could’ve drawn will increase conversions higher than your expensive banner ad which you paid for.

It’s not uncommon for this to happen either, so don’t get caught up in your designs from the get-go.

Using a graphic designer for your ads is completely fine (and I’d recommend it if you’ve got that resource available to you) but just be sure to test out the complete opposite too.

As sometimes, you’ll get an unpleasant surprise and hopefully make a bigger ROI from it too!

Method #7 – Understanding Facebook Advertising Psychology

Finally, last but not least, never forget that we’re all humans at the end of the day.

We may work in different fields, some of us are firemen while others are marketing gurus, yet when we all get to reading our Facebook, we’re people. People looking to find something funny to share with our friends, something useful or interesting to pass time with, or maybe even shopping through Facebook, which became possible recently.

But what all this means is that at the end of the day, you need to forget all those flashy and pushy 80s advertisements, they won’t work.

Don’t try to hammer out a massive sales pitch into a short ad. Just be honest about why your audience should click on your advertisement.

Take a moment to think about why people come to Facebook….it’s to talk to friends, post photos of their cats and comment on their friend’s statuses. Then between all that there’s this little floating ‘sponsored’ box.

(Source: Facebook)

Remember, no one logs onto Facebook to join a $67/month membership site, join a $25,000 mastermind, do a quiz to find out what their number one fat loss secret is. People come to Facebook to connect. So the more natural the experience is, the better the results you will achieve.

I understand, inherently us marketers wish we could funnel everyone into a squeeze page, right? Just send everyone straight to an optin box and be done with it! Let the leads roll into my inbox. Or even better, just see those Stripe or PayPal notifications come through with recent purchase notifications.

Oh, how I wish it was that easy. Although you may be limited in some areas of Facebook advertising, there’s an ocean of consumers out there waiting to be reached by you.

And like any business, they’ll taking nurturing as you move them through your funnel and build that trust and rapport, ready for them to make the purchase.

In Conclusion…

After these seven ways that you can use to boost your Facebook advertising results, it might pop in to your mind that maybe all of this doesn’t work for everyone.

And you’re right, each Facebook ad is different in its own way.

There’s no one size fits all solution for each business when running Facebook Ads, but the more you test with your targeting, offer, creative, copywriting etc. the closer you will be to a successful campaign.

You have to know your audience to be able to determine what suits them and what doesn’t. You need to know when your audience is asleep, at work and relaxing at home, since that is the only way you can reach them precisely where you want to.

  1. WOOO! This is so timely!

    • Awesome – great to hear you’re running Facebook Ads!

      • Jessica Dalton says:

Hey Stephen, any thoughts on tracking “Add Payment Information” versus “Add to Cart” for FB Events?

Our website is http://www.lipstickratings.com. We have a sales letter order page with a 2-step order form and product element at the bottom. Seeing as we don’t have a “Cart” technically… or do we?

We’re frustrated because after we launched our website we’ve had 88 “add to carts” (supposedly according to FB manager), but not a single purchase.

By the way. My boyfriend and I LOVE YOUR CONTENT. We work with Tai and Alex
